Striee Finishes
Striee finishes mimic wood grain. Striee finishes can
be applied to doors, woodwork, wall trim, or walls for a wood effect
that is dramatic.
Striee is a latex paint and manufactured latex glazing
process that is simple to accomplish with proper time allowed.
First, prepare the surface, ensuring the nails, holes
and imperfections are taken care of prior to beginning the striee process.
Then apply an eggshell base to the wall or surface, covering the entire
surface.
After the base coat of latex paint is completely dry,
the striee process calls for you to prepare a glaze mixture for the
topcoat. This striee glaze mixture is accomplished using latex glaze
and adding glaze color to produce the desired shade for the striee wood
grain.
The latex colored latex glaze can now be applied with
either a sponge or brush dipped in the color glaze and applied to the
entire surface. If the mixture begins to become too thick water can
be added to dilute the mixture while you work.
Once this striee color glaze application is complete,
mix another container of glaze that is clear. You will now require a
dry brush, rag, and the glaze coating to complete the final step in
striee.
Dip the brush in the clear glaze ensuring that all excess
glaze is wiped from the brush. The brush should be almost dry. Now,
following a wood grain pattern, drag the dry brush through the topcoat
glaze mixture, being careful not to abruptly stop the flow of the brush,
or the faux wood grain.
This process should be completed until the entire surface
is “grained” with the dry brush to create the striee project.
