Wall Papering
Wall papering allows you to add dramatic color and style
to a room easily. Whether you desire to cover one wall or an entire
room, Wall papering with pre-pasted backing provides an excellent decorating
choice for the homeowner.
A very important step in the Wall papering process is
to make sure that the wall that you intend to cover is clean and free
of previous Wall papering materials. Spackling should be used to fill
any holes in the wall that may exist to provide a smooth surface for
the new Wall papering. It may also be necessary to sand a wall that
has a rough surface so that the Wall papering will adhere to the wall
successfully.
Measure each wall from both vertically and horizontally
to ensure that you purchase the correct amount of wall paper to complete
your project.
As you begin your Wall papering project it is advisable
to measure out each piece to fit the wall prior to attempting to apply
it. This will also allow you to prepare for complicated areas such as
windows and doors that require different shapes of wall paper pieces.
New wall paper generally comes pre-glued on the back.
All that is required to activate the glue is water. After measuring
each piece of wall paper, run the piece through a tub of water to ensure
that all sections are covered and that the glue activates completely.
Then, starting at the top of the wall line up the edge of the wall paper
with the edge of the wall. Working down, begin to smooth out the wall
paper against the wall until the one strip is straight and even. Using
a roller or sponge you can then begin to work to press the wall paper
firmly on the wall, paying special attention to seams and edges. When
you are prepared to hand the next piece, butt the edges together, (without
overlapping them) and press the seams together well when smoothing the
wall paper.
